Focus Group Transcription by Production Transcripts

We provide focus group transcription services from video tapes as well as normal audio formats. In fact, we highly recommend that you shoot focus groups on video if at all possible. This will greatly increase the quality of the transcript.

With a video source, the transcriber can see who is speaking and correctly identify them in the transcript. This is not always possible with audio-only sources because voices often sound very similar.

If the audio is submitted on VHS or DVD with a visible timecode "window burn," we can also provide time code references in your transcript. Click here for VHS duplicating advice.

Notes on Audio Formats for Focus Groups:
  • We highly recommend recording your focus group on Video or DVD .
  • DO NOT USE microcassette if at all possible. The resulting transcript will most likely be extremely poor. Often times, we can only transcribe microcassette focus groups on a 'best efforts' basis.
  • Proper recording technique for focus groups makes a huge difference in transcription quality.
  • For Audio Cassettes, each side of the cassette is billed as a separate transcript. Thus, if you have a 60 minute lecture and 45 minutes of it are on Side A and 15 minutes are on Side B, you will be billed for two transcripts, one 45 minutes, the other 15 minutes. See our advice on Audio Cassette Recording for more details.

Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.
