We consider audio to be a lecture or speech if one or more people address an audience sequentially. (For example: One person speaks or introduces somebody, the speaker addresses the audience or class, the moderator concludes the session.)

If there are multiple speakers such as a round-table or panel discussion, please see either Seminars or Panel Discussions instead.

Time coding is available as a billable option if your materials are submitted on VHS or DVD with a visible time code window burn (BITC).

Type 2 pricing applies to all Lectures or Speeches where any of the following occur:

Not professionally recorded.
There is a Q&A session. (Lecture followed by Questions)
Socratic Method (Lecturer and Audience interact throughout)
Recorded on Microcassette.
Excessive room or audience noise.
Accents (British, foreign, heavy regional, or otherwise).
Speakers using English as a second language.
Poor sound quality (tape or environment).
Material is of a highly technical nature.
Recorded from the audience.

Type 1 pricing applies only if the lecture is professionally recorded with a direct feed from the microphone into professional equipment. Additionally, the speaker must speak American dialect English as a first language. (For example: European lecturers who speak English as a second language will be billed as Type-2.)

We have found that most lectures and speeches are billed as Type-2 as they do not meet the strict sound quality requirements for Type-1.

If there is a Q&A session that you want transcribed, then the entire length of the lecture is billed as Type-2. (We do not separate the lecture from the Q&A as a general rule. If we were to do so, the Q&A portion would bill at the Type-3 rate)

If there is a presentation aspect to the Lecture, consider video taping it and sending us a VHS tape or DVD . This will increase the accuracy of your transcript.
For Audio Cassettes, each side of the cassette is billed as a separate transcript. Thus, if you have a 60 minute phone call and 45 minutes of it are on Side A and 15 minutes are on Side B, you will be billed for two transcripts, one 45 minutes, the other 15 minutes.
