Tutorial: Uploading Digital Files for Transcription

Preparing Files for Upload

We recommend that you record your audio for transcription at the highest quality possible to begin with and then convert it to MP3 for uploading. If you not comfortable with the procedures for uploading files, we recommend that you send us your audio the old-fashioned way. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to provide support for recording, digitizing and converting your audio although we do offer the following guidelines and tutorials.

See our guidelines for creating Digital Files.

There are two options for uploading files to our server:

Steps:

  1. You must sign up for an account before you can access the client area.
  2. Login to to the client area.
  3. Select "Upload Files" from the menu, then "FTP Signup"
  4. Once you sign up for the FTP account, we'll provision it. That takes about 20 minutes
  5. Install your FTP software if you don't already have it. See tutorials below.
  6. Email us your file upload information or fax a submission form.

To upload files to our FTP site you must use a separate piece of software called a FTP client. It is not possible to upload to our FTP site using Internet Explorer. We provide guidance only for the SmartFTP (for Windows) and Cyberduck (for Macintosh). Select one or the other to view our tutorial.

A wide variety of FTP clients exist and you may use which ever one you feel comfortable with.
