Macintosh OSX Tutorial for Using Cyberduck Download Cyberduck here or from Vendor Site and install it on your Macintosh OS X 10.2.1 or higher machine. This tutorial does not cover OS 9.2 (Classic). There are a wide variety of FTP clients available for 9.2 and the process is more or less the same, but unfortunately we don't have tutorial prepared for those programs at this time. Start Cyberduck, you should get a screen link this. If your tool bar looks like Figure 2, try resizing the window by dragging the bottom right corner. This should restore the tool bar to resemble Figure 1. Either click the 'New Connection' button or select 'New Connection' from the File pull-down menu. Enter 'productiontranscripts.com' for the server name and the Username and Password provided by us for your account. For the purposes of this tutorial, we use "my_login" as our Username/Login. Substitute your username "my_login" and enter the password provided. After clicking 'Connect' you should be logged into our FTP server. The top of the screen will indicate if you are connected or not. If you enter the wrong information, you will get some sort of error. Once you're logged in, you can now upload your digital files. In this tutorial we're going to upload a MP3 file from the desktop to the ftp server. In Figure 6, we can see Bob_Smith.mp3 on the desktop. (Unlike Windows computers, the file name should include the file type extension. In this case ".mp3"). Select and drag "Bob_Smith.mp3" into the main window to start the upload process. Once the file starts to upload, the transfer queue will display the status of the transfer. The amount of time it will take to upload depends on the speed of your connection and the size of the file. In Figure 7, we can see that the file is 5% uploaded and is uploading at 32kb/second. Most phone modems can upload at about 5kb/second. If you don't see the transfer queue you can bring it to the front by selecting "Show Transfer Queue" from the view menu. Once the transfer is completed you will see the file name appear in the Cyberduck window. Notice that the window now shows "Bob_Smith.mp3" with a file size of 5MB and the date and time it finished uploading. See Figure 9. Now that the transfer is complete you can either disconnect or drag another file into the window to repeat the process. (See Figure 6.) It is also possible to upload multiple files at a time. Simply select a group of files and drag them into the window. Please note, with Cyberduck when you upload multiple files at once, you split your upload capacity by the number of files you upload. Thus if you can upload at 30kb/second and you upload two files at a time, each file will upload at approximately 15kb/second. There are other FTP programs that manage 'queuing' better, but are beyond the scope of this tutorial. Click the 'Disconnect' button to disconnect from the server. A confirmation window will come up. Select 'Disconnect' to complete the log out. Once you are disconnected you can then quit the program. (Selecting "Quit" without disconnecting will also disconnect you from the server.)
